Texada Residence

A goal of the Texada Residence was to design a space in which inspiration and creativity would flourish. Two artists commissioned the residence to be sited on a rural Texada Island acreage. The site provided an opportunistic pallet, as it featured a gentle slope and a panoramic vista of the surrounding forested area.

A particularly striking element of the house is the cantilevered Prairie School inspired roof. This feature combines aesthetic with functionality, as it provides shelter for the expansive deck, which surrounds most of the main floor level.

Additionally, the timber framed, cedar-clad residence includes generous areas of glass doors and windows, which connect the interior living and studio spaces to the decks and the view beyond. A focal point of the open main living area is a dramatic ledger stone chimney containing a high efficiency wood burning fireplace. The practical design elements and classic style of the residence will endure as a home for artists and families alike.
